Latvia 22 May

We have been invited to a talk by the Latvian ambassader, Kaspars Ozolins, whose term as ambassader comes to an end this summer. The title is "Latvia on the way to first centenial: Ambassador's view after 5 years in Denmark".

The talk will be given on May 22 at 7pm in Filipskirkens Menighedssal, Kastrupvej 57, 2300 København S. It will be in English, and it will be possible to ask questions.

So they can arrange enough tables and coffee you're asked to send a mail to kirsten.gjalbaek (at) gmail.com if you want to attend.

We received the invitation through KUKS.

The Australian Embassy has as usual invited us to an Anzac Day service. This year it will be held at dawn, followed by breakfast. It is necessary to register in advance (by April 20). The link to the details is http://denmark.embassy.gov.au/cpgn/anzac.html

Later many Kiwis and Aussies go on to the Southern Cross Pub where Anzac Biscuits are served.

New Zealand Oil and Gas

The New Zealand government has decided to prohibit all new sales of drilling licences for oil and gas off the New Zealand coast. Drilling will continue under the present 22 licences so oil will still be pumped up for about the next 30 years.

AGM AND SOCIAL GET-TOGETHER Wednesday 18 April, 2018

Hi All,

The AGM plus a general social get-together will be held on April 18, 2018.
We will meet from 1730, with the AGM starting at 1800 and finishing pretty
soon after. Then we will carry on wherever the wind takes us. Note that this
is at the Southern Cross Pub (our namesake - brothers in arms, or beer maybe).

Note that it is a non-smoking venue, we will have the upstairs section to
ourselves, happy hour bar prices, and the Club will provide a few snacks. We
can decide on dinner together - could possibly be to bring in some pizzas
(which the Pub will allow us to do).

AGENDA to come soon.

Note: We realise that this notice is coming to some of you rather late. We
have had the AGM posted on Facebook for some time, but because our website
was not functioning, we couldn't access our mailing list to send this notice
out. DanDomain have at last connected us with our database again after many
frustrating attempts to get them to sort out the problem.

We hope you will accept the late notice due to the circumstances, but if
anyone objects please let us know immediately. In that case we will find a
new date for the AGM, but still meet at the Southern Cross Pub for a social
get-together.

We hope to see you there.

Simon
Secretary

On Ascension Weekend, May 10 to 12, we are organising a camping long weekend in Järnavik which is on the coast of Blekinge in Sweden (about 2½ hours drive from Copenhagen, or 3 3/4 hours by public transport). More details will follow.

TRAMPING IN SWEDEN THURSDAY 28 JUNE
I've (Simon) talked to quite a few members who're missing their tramping. So here's your chance:
Simon is organising a day tramp in eastern Skåne on Thursday 28 June. Bush, heath, hills, history, Skåne's highest waterfall etc etc. Details in Danish are found on vandrefuglene.dk. If you can't read Danish, contact me for details. This is a tramp arranged for another club, but you may join us.

Cameras at Homer Tunnel caught kea moving traffic cones around! So the answer was to build a gym for them to try and keep them off the road!

SPECIAL GENERAL MEETING

Membership – Clarification
and
Notice of Meeting - Extraordinary General Meeting

There is some confusion regarding the Club’s membership list and mailing list which we are working hard to clarify. This message supercedes any previous messages on this issue.

The Committee has called an Extraordinary General Meeting for Wednesday 24th January 2018 at 6pm.
This meeting is being called to make necessary changes to the existing constitution, as well as to socialise a little.
We welcome all members to join us for this short but important meeting, after which we plan to get some take away food and a few liquid refreshments (costs to be shared).

* If you wish to become a member OR to confirm your membership, please note the following.

1. If you are, or have been, a member of the Southern Cross Club in Denmark, please send an email to committee@southerncrossclub.dk to confirm your membership. Note that at present, there is no subscription or joining fee.
PLUS
Advise us, before 10th January 2018, that you wish to attend the Extraordinary General Meeting.
OR
State that you WILL NOT attend the Extraordinary General Meeting.

2. If you are not a member but wish to join the club, we welcome you. Please send an email to committee@southerncrossclub.dk requesting membership. If you are an Australian or New Zealand citizen, please tell us that, otherwise please provide some supporting information outlining your connection with either Australia or New Zealand (which is required by the Club’s constitution). Note that at present, there is no subscription or joining fee.
PLUS
Advise us, before 10th January 2018, that you wish to attend the Extraordinary General Meeting.
OR
State that you WILL NOT attend the Extraordinary General Meeting.

3. If you have already clicked “Going” on the Facebook page, “Thanks” but that will NOT be enough. In accordance with the constitution, you will need to send an email as detailed in the first two options above.

4. The proposed changes to the constitution are summarised here.

Firstly, it is proposed to reduce the required number of members on the committee, reflecting the smaller membership of the club now compared with times past. This change is necessary to enable the club to function in the current conditions.

Secondly, a number of minor changes to the wording of various clauses are proposed to reflect the conditions of today, which includes such things as changes to electronic communication and financial management.

Thirdly, a number of other changes are proposed to clarify some of the Club’s functions, such as roles of the committee and committee members.

5. Further details, including the address for the meeting, will be sent to those who have been accepted as members of the Club (as per points 1 and 2 above).
