Australia's New State?

Reliable sources have informed us that secret negotiations have been taking place between Australia and New Zealand discussing the possibility of uniting the two countries. The hoped for date for this is the symbolically important Anzac Day, 2020. To placate Kiwis who feel they're being eaten up by their larger brother, the suggested new flag for the combined country is the NZ flag.

Wild Kiwi Pies lunch meetup Saturday 23 April

If you haven't already heard, Kiwi pies are now available in Copenhagen! You can find more information on their website: www.wildkiwipies.com Come and join us for lunch on Saturday 23 April at 12 noon. Their shop is at Toftegårds Allé 43, just across the road from Valby Station. They're working on getting a licence so they can sell Aussie and Kiwi beer to wash the pies down with. If we can make it worth their while they're willing to open late for a future Pub/Café Evening, so make sure you come along on April 23 and show the flag!

You don't have to say if you're coming or not, but it would help the shop if you do. Just send a mail to committee@southerncrossclub.dk

Café Evening March 11 6.30pm

Hi Everyone! Our next Café Evening is, as previously announced, on Friday March 11 at 6.30pm. It will, like last month, be held at Floras Kaffebar (http://floraskaffebar.dk/), Blågårdsgade 27, 2200 København N, a comfortable café with a long history across the road from the even more famous Blågårds Apotek. Come early, as they close at 10pm, though it will be possible to go somewhere else afterwards.

Remember that the lucky winner of the Fat Freddy's Drop tickets will be drawn on this evening. Hurry and enter the competition if you still haven't (details on our website). You can also enter at the Café Evening, but don't come too late or you might miss out.

Floras is within walking distance of the centre of Copenhagen, but faster and easier is to take bus 5A to Ravnsborggagde or the metro to Forum.

See you Friday!
Simon

FAT FREDDY'S DROP: 2 TICKETS TO BE WON!

The Southern Cross Club is running a competition to win two tickets to the Fat Freddy's Drop concert on April 3 in Falconer Salen in Frederiksberg. To be in, send an email to committee@southerncrossclub.dk answering the following question: In what town are Fat Freddy's Drop based? Add your name and contact details and keep your fingers crossed! You're also very welcome to come to one of our café evenings and join the competition there. The next one is at Floras on Blågårdsgade in Nørrebro on Friday 12 February, 7.30pm. The lucky winners will be drawn at the following café evening on Friday 11 March (venue to be announced) from those who have answered the question correctly. So come along! There'll still be a chance to take part on March 11, but you'll need to come early.

The tickets are kindly donated by the organiser of Fat Freddy's Danish concert, who has also guaranteed that there will still be tickets available on March 11 for those not lucky enough to win theirs. (But he doesn't guarantee they won't be sold out by April 3).

In fact the concert has been moved to the larger Falconer Salen from Store Vega, because earlier concerts there have been sold out, leaving many disappointed fans.

I know a lot of you have already bought tickets, but think what a good present two tickets would be.

If any of you don't know who Fat Freddy's Drop are, I really pity you! Then you must come along to find out what you're missing out on!

See you at a Café Evening or at the Fat Freddy's concert!

Simon

Café Evening 12 February 2016

Our next Café Evening will be held at Floras Kaffebar, Blågårdsgade 27, 2200 København N. You can walk there from Forum Metro Station or catch bus 5A a few stops from Nørreport. Floras is an institution that's been there quite some time. We earlier held a brunch there. We liked Paludan Book Cafe where we held a few café evenings, but it was difficult to get a table and the queue for drinks and eats was very long, so we're trying something new. Come along and meet other Kiwis and Aussies. New people are very welcome. Look out for the NZ and Aussie flags! We'll be there at 7.30pm. Simon

Christmas Get Together 12 Dec 2pm

Hi all,

Once again, the club has been somewhat inactive this year, for various reasons. Several of the committee have spent significant amounts of time down under this year, mostly to do with ageing family members back home. One of the committee even got posted to the US, without telling us!

However, we were thinking it was about time for a get together, and Christmas is as good an excuse as any - so, we would like to invite as many members and friends as can make it, to an afternoon with 'gløgg and æbleskiver', at Mark and Lotte's (Bernstorffsvej 5 in Hellerup), on Saturday the 12th of December, from 2pm (kl. 14 for those who have been here too long :-) ).

As per last year, we will supply gløgg, æbleskiver, tea/coffee, soft drinks for the kids and a nice warm fire.

We would like everyone to bring along an interesting Christmas delicacy - e.g. Pavlova from Australia (or was that from NZ?), mince pies from the UK, Stollen from Germany - be creative! - and some wine/beer if you're not into gløgg.

Please RSVP by Thursday the 10th of December, so we know how many cups, glasses and chairs to get out.

Cheers for now, and if we don't see you on the 12th, Merry Christmas from me and the (remaining) committee.

Mark Rogers
SCC Chairman
